Madden NFL ’18 says John Ross is faster than Tyreek Hill

Tyreek Hill was the fastest player in the NFL in 2016 by a fair margin, but somehow Madden ’18 has him behind rookie receiver John Ross in the ratings.

Tyreek Hill is not a 99. Something is wrong here.

The official Madden ’18 ratings just came out for every player, and Tyreek Hill likely turned out just fine at 83 overall. That’s definitely not bad for a second year player taken in the fifth round who surprised everyone. But what’s crazy is that Tyreek Hill’s best attribute, his top speed, isn’t given full credit. In fact, not only does Madden not rate Hill at a 99 in speed, but they also have someone else faster than him—Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver John Ross.

Ross, the rookie receiver, broke Chris Johnson’s 40-yard dash mark at the NFL Combine back in February and earned all kinds of hype in the process. Chris Johnson even congratulated him, and the resulting buzz helped his stock climb all the way to No. 9 in the 2017 NFL Draft. Pairing him with A.J. Green and new running back Joe Mixon will give the Bengals offense a kickstart for sure. But rewarding Ross with the fastest player in the league without ever playing a single snap that matters is a bit much.

The reality is that Hill deserves not only to be the fastest player in the league but to be measured at a 99 from the outset. What more does a player have to do than record the two single fastest times in the NFL last season to be named the fastest? Apparently Hill didn’t enter the NFL with quite enough buzz to put him over the top, so maybe Hill can just show everyone what he can do all over again.
