Chiefs rumors: Who will be Kansas City’s surprise cuts in 2017?
Demetrius Harris, tight end
This would come as a surprise to me given how much time the team has invested in Demetrius Harris. The converted tight end has made decent strides since coming to Kansas City as a former basketball player, becoming a two-point conversion machine a year ago. But this tight end room is crowded, even more so now with the addition of Gavin Escobar, who has very good ability as a receiver.
While he has shown some raw physical talent, Harris has struggled to put it all together on the field. Despite a nice reception or two, Harris has been very inconsistent catching the ball, dropping a number of easy completions a year ago. It doesn’t help that Harris was arrested this spring on suspicion of marijuana possession. According to Over the Cap, the team can save $1.35 million by cutting Harris outright.
With superstar Travis Kelce leading the way, I expect Gavin Escobar to take over the role as No. 2 tight end. If Ross Travis can continue to build upon the flashes of talent we saw last fall, Harris will become the odd man out in this group. A disappointing end to the Harris experiment. [Austin Owen]
