Peter Bukowski of FanRag Sports is the culprit here, a writer who recently penned a column about five overrated players due to fantasy football. Bukowski believes that Hill is being overdrafted in fantasy leagues, which is no concern for us here. As Shakespeare once said, “Fake teams bother me not.” But one particular line raised an eyebrow here, hence the reason for this column.
"More the point, Hill was wildly inconsistent last season, which is to be expected from a rookie, but he was often talked about like the second coming of T.Y. Hilton, rather than souped-up Tavon Austin (which would be more accurate)."
Let’s not get defensive. That’s a great question. The NFL is littered with smaller, faster players who have blown in and out of the league. Every year, teams will take a chance on former track stars, smaller players who have shown incredible bursts. Every year, we fawn over the 40-yard dash and project good things the fastest players at the highest level. Just because Tyreek Hill enjoyed one year of surprising productivity doesn’t necessarily make him, well, a T.Y. Hilton, right?
Even as a Chiefs fan, I can admit the ceiling is uncertain for Tyreek Hill. Cordarrelle Patterson and Tyler Lockett are two fellow wide receivers who enjoyed the great fanfare of strong rookie seasons, anchored by their electric return ability. Neither player has turned the corner to be a top flight wideout for their respective teams. On the other hand, the DeSean Jackson comparisons also make sense, especially under head coach Andy Reid.
So let’s take a closer look: Tavon or T.Y.
