Marcus Peters: “We’re going to beat the dog —- out of Marshawn Lynch”

SANTA CLARA, CA - OCTOBER 22: Marshawn Lynch

Marcus Peters is happy for Marshawn Lynch and his return to Oakland, but he also has a clear message to send about what he can expect when facing KC.

Marcus Peters has a clear message for Marshawn Lynch and it comes with two sides. On the positive side, the Kansas City Chiefs cornerback is quite happy for the veteran running back, as the former Seattle Seahawk will get to continue his career in 2017 by playing for his hometown team, the Oakland Raiders. On the other hand, Peters warned Lynch on what to expect when Oakland faces the Chiefs for two weeks each year.

The third year cornerback told the Mercury News on Monday that Lynch shouldn’t expect too much success when facing the Chiefs.

"“It’s going to feel good for him,” Peters said. “It’s going to be a good feeling, It’s going to be a good feeling for Oakland. But when we come here, we’re going to beat the dog (expletive) out of him.”"

Lynch’s return to the Bay as well as his return from retirement has been a big story in Oakland this offseason. Beast Mode certainly was a monster back for the Seahawks at several points, and NFL analysts are expecting similar things for the Raiders this year. Lynch will join one of the NFL’s best young offenses with an ascendant quarterback in Derek Carr, most recently made into the highest paid player in the game, as well as a great offensive line.

That said, it’s important to also remember that Lynch didn’t play at all last season and in 2015, he rushed 111 times for 417 yards and 3 touchdowns, good for a scant 3.8 yards/carry. Thus, the memory of Beast Mode is a three year old memory and Lynch just recently turned 31-years-old. In other words, it’s wishful thinking to believe Lynch is automatically guaranteed success.

Perhaps that makes Peters’ words more reliable in this instance than any positive projections for Lynch. The Chiefs owned the Raiders last year and have won five of the last six overall meetings between the two teams. Until Carr and company can reverse their lack of success against the Chiefs, Peters’ words should be held up as the reliable side. And Lynch should understand what to expect when preparing to face Kansas City.
