The Oakland Raiders are close to making their quarterback a very rich man with word that Derek Carr will make $25 million each year.
For the last few years, the Oakland Raiders have had more money to play with than other teams in the AFC West due to the fact that they were paying their rookie quarterback a preset amount slotted to him upon being drafted. It was the sort of money that let them lock up former Chiefs like Sean Smith at cornerback and Rodney Hudson at center. Those days are over with word from Adam Schefter that the Raiders are prepared to make Derek Carr very, very rich.

Carr is one of the brightest young quarterbacks in the NFL and the rumored extension has been in the works for some time. The team and player likely wanted to get something done well before the season started, so as to not have any potential questions or drama hanging overhead for a team focused on making the playoffs and making a Super Bowl run,.
Reggie McKenzie struck gold when he selected Carr in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft. It’s no coincidence that Carr’s own growth has helped propel the Raiders from a 3 win team during his rookie season to a 12-3 record as a starter last year for Oakland. In 2016, Carr threw 28 touchdowns and only 6 interceptions, by far his lowest total in three seasons by 50 percent. He also set a career high for completion percentage at 63.8%.
