Chiefs rumors: OT Donald Hawkins tries out for Kansas City
By Matt Conner
The Kansas City Chiefs reportedly had offensive tackle Donald Hawkins showing the coaching staff what he can do during a recent Chiefs minicamp practice.
The Kansas City Chiefs 90-man roster is already largely set and over 30 of those players will not make the final team, but that didn’t stop general manager John Dorsey from inviting one more option along the offensive line from trying out for the team on Tuesday. Free agent Donald Hawkins stopped by Tuesday’s mandatory minicamp practice to work out for the Chiefs in hopes of landing with a franchise for training camp.
Hawkins has spent time with an incredible seven teams in his short three year career since entering the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2014. He was signed and released by the Philadelphia Eagles and Cleveland Browns before his rookie season even started, but managed to hang on with the Dallas Cowboys that year until the following spring. He spent the 2015 regular season with the Miami Dolphins and San Francisco 49ers. Last year, he spent nearly the entire calendar year with the Carolina Panthers before being released late in the regular season, where the New York Jets snatched him up only to release him last month.
