Jeremy Maclin wooed by star receivers
By Matt Conner
As Jeremy Maclin makes the free agent rounds, he’s hearing pitches from fellow star wideouts about where he should sign.
If a player is known by the company he keeps, then it speaks volumes that Jeremy Maclin is being courted and swayed by some of his most accomplished peers at wide receiver. Less than a week after the Kansas City Chiefs surprisingly released Maclin for the sake of some cap space, other teams have jumped at the chance to sign him. Specifically, LeSean McCoy of the Buffalo Bills and Steve Smith, formerly of the Baltimore Ravens, have made it known where they’d like to see Maclin.
Smith weighed in with a photo with Maclin during his visit to Baltimore on Wednesday. Maclin is in town to hear the Ravens’ pitch for joining the team, although they lack the cap space of the Bills. However, if a deal is structured right, and for more than a single year, it’s possible the Ravens could be the team to lure Maclin in.
As Smith is to the Ravens’ visit, McCoy was for the Bills, except the former Eagles teammate was a lot louder in his pitch for Maclin. Not only has McCoy been posting Instagram shots of hanging out with Maclin, but even before Maclin’s visit he was recruiting him and telling reporters “don’t be surprised” if the Bills sign the former Chiefs wideout.
Maclin is still enjoying his Baltimore visit and it’s uncertain whether he will visit anywhere else, but the Cleveland Browns have checked in on him and certainly other teams are interested to varying degrees. Maybe Maclin will take his time or perhaps one of his friends and fellow wide receivers will be able to convince him to sign on the dotted line.
