As the Kansas City Chiefs enter week two of organized team activities, the team’s rookies are under the gun to begin making adjustments to the professional level of football.
With all eyes on him, the most obvious transition is happening for Patrick Mahomes.
As he was able to get into his first action Wednesday in a two-minute drill, Mahomes made a classic rookie misstep. While trying to throw the ball away to presumably save clock, Mahomes neglected to account for all the defenders. Linebacker Reshard Cliett read the play and was able to make an interception and take it back for a pick-six.
When asked about what he’d learned during the 2-minute drill following practice, Mahomes replied
"“If I’m going to throw the ball away, just throw it way out of bounds. You’ve got to learn from those mistakes. They happen, but you’ve got to eliminate them and not let them happen again.”"

Conversely, Tanoh Kpassagnon is apparently making himself comfortable in the defensive line practices. He has commented that the entire defensive line has been helpful in him making his transition and that he is following their advice. He stated that practice is similar to what he saw on College and that continue to work play by play is what he’s focused on at the moment.
We’ll see if this transition becomes more apparent for either player as OTAs continue.
