The Kansas City Chiefs kick off their second round of OTAs this week, a voluntary minicamp for players to train and learn together.

Just like last week, the Kansas City Chiefs will host the majority of their players at Arrowhead Stadium starting on Tuesday and continuing through Thursday with the second round of organized team activities (OTAs). These activities are completely voluntary, but the biggest percentage of players on the roster should be there, given that the only three players to miss the first OTAs were defensive veterans Eric Berry, Justin Houston and Marcus Peters.

The Chiefs are permitted to come together for a total of 10 days for OTAs this offseason in what is called Phase 3. It’s a four-week window that began on May 22 and teams are allowed to split it up as they wish. Most teams, like the Chiefs, will separate it into three separate minicamps to learn, train, install plays, catch up on rehab and the like. The Chiefs will have two three-day minicamps and then a fourth next week that runs four days to get all 10 days in.

Each team is then allowed it’s only mandatory OTA or minicamp. For the Chiefs, they’ve scheduled this on June 13-15. It’s here that we will likely see Houston, Berry and Peters if they’ve not yet shown up to Kansas City. By staggering the practices or OTAs, teams are usually able to help keep players within their sights versus practicing 10 days in a row and then hoping and praying no one gets in trouble or out of shape when given too much free time.

Expect to hear further health updates this week on players like Parker Ehinger and Derrick Johnson as well as a focus on whether or not the aforementioned missing players will return (or what Andy Reid has to say about it… yet again).
