Where do the Kansas City Chiefs rank compared to other NFL teams? That’s essentially the question we would all love a definitive answer to as we await the start of another NFL season. Unfortunately, there is no way to get such an answer during the offseason.
As Chiefs fans, we have an idea of where we see the team. Sometimes our fandom may cause us to see the team through rose-colored glasses, while other times our frustrations with the team may cause us to be too hard on them. So instead of telling you where I would rank the Chiefs now that the roster that they’ll take to training camp is essentially in place, I thought I would take a little survey of what the national perspective is.
Today I looked at 10 national NFL power rankings that have all come out since the draft to see where the Chiefs stack up with the competition. Before we get to the results, here are the power rankings that I used. I linked each one, so if you would like to see any of the complete rankings or read their justifications for why they ranked the Chiefs where they did, simply click on the link below. In no particular order, here are the power rankings I surveyed:
NFL.com Power Rankings by Elliot Harrison
The MMQB’s Power Rankings by Peter King
SI.com’s NFL Power Rankings by Eric Single
Bleacher Report’s NFL Power Rankings by Brad Gagnon
CBSSports.com’s NFL Power Rankings by Pete Prisco
Fox Sports.com’s NFL Power Rankings by Cameron DeSilva
USA Today.com’s NFL Power Rankings (no author identified)
ESPN.com’s NFL Power Rankings by “A group of ESPN’s NFL experts”
Walter Football.com’s NFL Power Rankings by Walter Cherepinsky
NFL Spin Zone.com’s NFL Power Rankings by Dan Parzych
So now that we know which lists I looked at let’s start with where the Chiefs ranked.
