Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy says he’s waiting for his chance to leave Andy Reid’s side and become a head coach.

If the Kansas City Chiefs continue to win over the next couple seasons, the pipeline of talent flowing out of K.C. is only going to grow larger as teams poach talent from the coaching staff and front office in the hopes of planting their own seeds of success. Offensive coordinator Matt Nagy says he’s counting on that happening as he awaits his opportunity to be an NFL head coach .

Speaking to a crowd as the keynote speaker in Manheim Touchdown Club in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Nagy detailed his ascent up the coaching ladder from “selling houses” seven years ago to now coaching the Chiefs offense alongside Reid and Brad Childress.

"“The dream I have now is to be a head coach in the NFL, and I’m gonna make it happen,’’ he said."

Certainly Reid’s staff and influence will continue to grow in the NFL given that the Chiefs have made the playoffs for three of the last four seasons. The Philadelphia Eagles have already hired Doug Pederson, the team’s former offensive coordinator, to be their head coach. Dave Toub, the Chiefs special teams coordinator, has earned multiple interviews in the last year and appears to be “next” in line, so to speak. The strength of Bob Sutton’s defense year after year should also earn some looks, but if the Chiefs offense turns a corner under Patrick Mahomes, perhaps Nagy will find his stock elevated.
