Jaguars work out former Chiefs linebacker Sam Barrington

A familiar face surfaced in Jacksonville on Friday as veteran linebacker Sam Barrington worked out for the Jaguars.
Veteran linebacker Sam Barrington, who suited up for the Kansas City Chiefs last season, is hoping to find a new permanent home with the upcoming young defense of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Barrington came to Kansas City in the middle of last season to help the Chiefs fill out the middle after veteran Josh Mauga went down with a season-ending injury. The Chiefs needed serious help in the middle after having released Ramik Wilson and then the loss of Mauga. Fortunately, they retained Wilson on the practice squad and he experienced a second half surge in development that likely secured his roster spot for 2017 as well.
Barrington only played in two games for the Chiefs last season and failed to register a single tackle. He originally entered the league with the Green Bay Packers as their seventh round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. (No, John Dorsey didn’t know Barrington already since he was already with the Chiefs during that draft.) Barrington was released by the Chiefs after a couple games, but landed with the New Orleans Saints for the final five games of the season as a special teams performer.
Barrington has 79 total tackles in his career with a single sack in 29 games. He’s started at linebacker before, but his experience and strengths lie in special teams play which is likely where a team will add him heading into training camp after getting a look at some younger players.
