Chris Ballard & Kyle Childress

Former home: Chiefs
New home: Colts

It was only a matter of time before the Kansas City Chiefs waved goodbye to Chris Ballard. The longtime Chicago Bears scout and Chiefs front office exec ahs been respected around the league for some time. He declined to even give the San Francisco 49ers an interview earlier this offseason and has remained patient for the right opportunity for some time. The Indianapolis Colts presented one such situation, with a franchise quarterback already in place. Ballard has already impressed in his first offseason in Indy, pulling in several likely defensive starters in the team’s draft class and signing plenty of cheap veterans with significant upside.

As for where the Chiefs go next after Ballard has not been addressed. He was the Chiefs’ Director of Football Operations for the last two years. Perhaps the responsibilities fall between a number of departments and workers already in place or maybe the Chiefs will make some more promotions and hires in the next few weeks themselves.

Ballard also brought with him Kyle Childress, the son of Chiefs assistant head coach Brad Childress, to be his College Scouting Director.
