The Defensive Backs

Who’s In: Marcus Peters, Steven Nelson, Terrance Mitchell, DJ White, DeVante Bausby, Eric Berry, Ron Parker, Daniel Sorensen, Eric Murray, Marqueston Huff

Who’s Out: Phillip Gaines, Leon McQuay, Kenneth Acker, Devin Chappell, Jimmy Hall, Vernon Harris, Ashton Lampkin, J.R. Nelson, Jordan Sterns

I’m going out on a limb with a couple of the bottom of the roster spots here. I feel like Peters, Nelson, Mitchell, White, Berry, Parker, and Sorensen are locks to make the team. I feel like Eric Murray showed enough promise to warrant one of the spots as well, especially since he was a rookie playing safety for the first time. The safe picks for the final two spots are probably Gaines and McQuay. I just think the Chiefs gave Gaines his shot last year and he blew it. I’m not sure he has a future here and if they can go with a cheaper option like Bausby who they really liked the first time he was with KC before getting injured and eventually ending up in Chicago, I think they may do it. I’m also not sold on the new pick Leon McQuay. He seems like a guy who may need a year on the practice squad before he is ready to contribute, especially if they are turning him into a full time nickel corner as some have suggested. Huff is a wild card for me. He’s a undersized safety with good speed that could be valuable on special teams and could contribute as an extra defensive back in the sub package.

Finally, the special teams spots.
