Former Chiefs DL Jaye Howard received an offer from the Chicago Bears but wants to continue to shop around for the best deal.
The Kansas City Chiefs cut Jaye Howard loose last week before the 2017 NFL Draft citing a “failed physical” designation, but that’s not stopping him from finding offers from other teams on the open market. The Chicago Bears have made an official offer to the defensive tackle after making his first free agent visit, but Howard reportedly wants to keep shopping in hopes of finding a better offer (or forcing the Bears to go higher).
On paper, Howard’s addition to the Bears makes a lot of sense. He could slot right in along the Bears 3-4 defense who could use the veteran boost that Howard would provide. Coming in for a contract year, Howard will be on his best behavior and recently told us here at AA that he was feeling great and looking forward to showing off what he could do. That was when he thought he was with the Chiefs, but the sentiment remains.
The Bears recently released Ego Ferguson and failed to make any draft picks to bolster the line, so adding Howard would be a solid add after the draft. It’s also the reason other teams will likely bid as well, knowing that Howard is a nice run defender who can also push the pocket. In 2015, Howard had 5.5 sacks.
