Denver Broncos sign Jamaal Charles to one-year deal
By Matt Conner
The Denver Broncos have announced they’ve struck a one-year agreement to sign former Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles.
When the Kansas City Chiefs released running back Jamaal Charles earlier this offseason, it was hard for fans to stomach, but many also realized it was necessary after Charles had only appeared in 8 games over the last two seasons. However, it will be even tougher to take now that the Denver Broncos have announced they’ve struck a deal with Charles to bring him to the division rivals.
Charles is the franchise record-holder for career rushing yards for the Chiefs, a franchise icon who is undoubtedly the team’s most popular player of his generation. Now that he’s signed with Denver, it will certainly bring about mixed emotions seeing Charles run in an opposing uniform in Arrowhead Stadium.
Charles will split reps with C.J. Anderson, Devontae Booker and the newly drafted De’Angelo Henderson for time in Denver’s backfield. Booker led the Broncos in rushing last season but averaged only 3.5 yards/carry. Charles will be an immediate upgrade if he can indeed return to form after another Achilles injury.
