The Kansas City Chiefs have traded up in the NFL Draft to secure their quarterback of the future.

The Kansas City Chiefs have traded up with the Buffalo Bills to move up in the 2017 NFL Draft, from their original draft slot at No. 27 overall to No. 10 overall.

The Chiefs came into the draft with a slew of draft choices with 10 selections overall. Given that the Chiefs have such a deep roster, it’s easy to guess that not every rookie will even make the final team, which led to speculation the Chiefs could package some picks for the ability to move up the draft board as they saw fit. This is the first year that teams can trade compensatory selections which gives John Dorsey four more picks to deal than he would normally have had.

The Chiefs lost one of their original picks, a sixth round choice, as part of the penalty or punishment for allegedly tampering with then-free agent wide receiver Jeremy Maclin two offseasons ago. They also a third round choice in 2016 as part of the deal along with several fines.
