TRADE
Philadelphia Eagles receive: No. 27 (1st), No. 59 (2nd), No. 104 (3rd), No. 216 (6th)
Kansas City Chiefs receive: No. 14 (1st), No. 118 (4th)

Pick: 14
Team: Kansas City Chiefs
Selection: Patrick Mahomes, QB, Texas Tech

Patrick Mahomes is the top quarterback on the Kansas City Chiefs board and all the chatter thus far has K.C. as perhaps one of the few teams looking to move up. As has been well documented, incumbent starter Alex Smith clears $17 million from the salary cap if he’s not on the roster after this upcoming season. With 10 total picks at their disposal, the Chiefs are able to get their quarterback after the Arizona Cardinals pass on the signal caller.

Mahomes is a strong armed quarterback from Texas Tech who will need some time adapting to a pro-style offense and learning the terminology of Andy Reid’s complex offense, but he also brings the highest ceiling of any quarterback in this draft class to the Chiefs roster. He’s the ideal candidate to shape into the future starter while learning from an intelligent staff and starter.

While the Chiefs lose their second round pick to move up, they still have their original pick in round three as well as two selections in both round 4 and round 5. While this is an expensive trade, it’s important to remember the pile of money the Chiefs save in 2018 and the over $3 million they save in 2019. [John McCarty]
