In our recent series of trade ideas for the Kansas City Chiefs, today we offer one up for Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater.

Kansas City Chiefs receive: Teddy Bridgewater
Minnesota Vikings receive: 2017 5th round pick (170 overall)

For the last week or more, we’ve been putting forward several trade ideas for the Kansas City Chiefs to consider, just in case John Dorsey appreciates reading Arrowhead Addict, since we believe he will not be able to keep every one of his draft picks. With 10 of them to use at his disposal and such a deep roster already constructed, the Chiefs, we believe, should use some of those picks to upgrade various positions rather than bring in several new players to compete. There will be a rookie class, but a couple of these picks could be used in different ways. Today’s trade idea: Minnesota Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater.

If Bridgewater’s name raises your eyebrows, well, it should. It’s an odd idea, but it’s also one that just might work for all parties involved. If you don’t quite remember Bridgewater’s current predicament, here’s a summary:

  1. Bridgewater entered the NFL with the Vikings after the team traded up to the very bottom of the first round in the 2014 NFL Draft.
  2. Bridgewater took over the starter’s job early in his rookie season after starter Matt Cassel got injured.
  3. Over the course of two seasons, Bridgewater compiled a 17-11 record as a starter, going 11-5 for the Vikes in his first full season at the helm.
  4. On the eve of his third season, just before the start of the 2016 regular season, Bridgewater went down with his knee in complete disarray—a torn ACL, dislocated knee, etc.
  5. Bridgewater missed the 2016 season, is likely to miss the entire 2017 season and his very ability to play pro football again is in question. Even this week, he’s without an official date to return.

All of this might lead to the primary question of why the Kansas City Chiefs would trade for Bridgewater. Let’s discuss further.
