The Kansas City Chiefs continue to check in on draft prospects at the University of Toledo before the 2017 NFL Draft.
Even though the 2017 NFL Draft is next week, NFL teams are still sending scouts and executives to check out draft prospects across the country. Several teams sent representatives to Toledo, Ohio this week to check out defensive lineman Treyvon Hester, including the Kansas City Chiefs.
Hester would have worked out earlier in the offseason at the NFL Combine, but a torn labrum from last October led to December surgery. Hester would have earned more attention at this year’s East-West Shrine Game, but he had to miss it. Fortunately Hester’s recovery is ahead of schedule and he was able to get in his pro day.
NFL Draft analyst Tony Pauline had the numbers from Hester’s impressive pro day, where he weighed in at 6-2, 304 lbs. Hester set strong marks in the vertical leap and 40-yard dash, but it’s worth reading Pauline’s full report for the overall numbers. In addition, the following teams were in attendance.
"The Detroit Lions, Cleveland Browns, Philadelphia Eagles and Minnesota Vikings all sent defensive line coaches. The Denver Broncos, New York Giants, San Diego Chargers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Kansas City Chiefs, Pittsburgh Steelers, Indianapolis Colts and Oakland Raiders were also represented at the workout."
The Chiefs definitely need to add a big body in the draft in the middle and maybe even another defensive end. Bennie Logan and Jaye Howard are both set to become free agents next season.
Hester had 39 total tackles, including 8.5 for a loss, and 5 sacks in 2016.
