The Kansas City chiefs continue to do their due diligence on the upcoming quarterback draft class while dodging a potential division game-changer.

The announced retirement of Dallas quarterback Tony Romo should come as welcome news in Kansas City. His decision to join CBS Sports as a broadcaster means he will not be suiting up for either the Houston Texans or the Denver Broncos. If Romo had played for either, the Chiefs would have faced a solid team with a greatly upgraded quarterback. Now, they will contend with the two teams who likely will start very young players as their primary signal-callers.

This comes on the heels of the team meeting with Clemson’s DeShaun Watson. Watson is the number one quarterback on my draft board. He represents the top of a suspect quarterback class. Watson has recently been mocked to the Chiefs by several national analysts. While he is still a reach as a first-rounder, he would be the best option or Kansas City if he were to fall all the way to No. 27.
