Kansas City Chiefs ‘definitely want to pursue’ hosting future NFL Draft
By Matt Conner
The Kansas City Chiefs are using this year to learn the logistics of potentially hosting a future version of the NFL Draft.
The Kansas City Star has a report that the Chiefs are looking forward to vying for two future NFL events: the Super Bowl as well as an upcoming draft. The team realizes the ability to host the former is going to take serious time and effort, but they remain much more positive about hosting the latter in the near future.
The Star’s Terez Paylor has the story from the annual league meetings that Clark Hunt was openly discussing the possibilities of both. The team’s owner admits a Super Bowl is “not on the front burner” but he continues to champion the idea. The NFL Draft, on the other hand, has begun to make the rounds as a rotating event in NFL cities, moving from a static location at Radio City Music Hall in New York to Chicago and Philadelphia over the last two years.
Team President Mark Donovan said the team will be using this year’s draft to consider the logistics of running the same event in Kansas City in the near future.
"“We’ll have representatives there to look at how they do it, to make sure the league knows we’re serious and we are serious about learning and making it a great experience,” Donovan said. “We’ve been open and consistent in our communication with the league that the draft is something we definitely want to pursue, so I think we’re well-positioned there.”"
The site for the 2018 NFL Draft still has not yet been determined.
