Jets rumors: Chase Daniel to visit New York on Monday
By Matt Conner
The New York Jets will play host to free agent quarterback Chase Daniel on Monday.
Chase Daniel is starting his free agent tour. One day after spending time with his former team, the New Orleans Saints, Daniel is starting the work week with a visit to the New York Jets.
Daniel spent time with his former team on Sunday, where he served as the primary back-up to Drew Brees from 2010-2012 after joining the team the previous year. Daniel then left to become the primary back-up to Alex Smith from 2013-2015 before departing in free agency for another three-year deal, this time to the Philadelphia Eagles. But what was presumed to be a real competition for a starting role turned into another understudy role after the Eagles traded up to take Carson Wentz.
Daniel is reportedly looking for another starting role, but he definitely won’t have that with the Saints, at least for another year until Brees is a free agent. On the flip side, the Jets have a wide open competition for their starting role with unproven players like Christian Hackenberg and Bryce Petty on the roster. Former Jets quarterback Geno Smith signed with the New York Giants earlier in free agency.
The Jets have also been linked to Josh McCown who also came in for a free agent visit. Ryan Fitzpatrick remains a free agent.
