The first rumors around where Knile Davis might land have surfaced as the free agent running back visits the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday.
The Kansas City Chiefs allowed running back Knile Davis to hit free agency this offseason after spending his first four years in the NFL with the team. So far, his market has yet to heat up, but the first signs of interest have now surfaced with the reported visit to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Steelers have a featured back in place with Le’Veon Bell, but the depth chart behind him is not quite set, given that the Steelers have yet to re-sign DeAngelo Williams. Williams’ presence has been important at key times given Bell’s injury history. While the Steelers have younger options, there’s not a single drafted player on the roster below Bell, which could mean Davis has a nice chance of making the roster, if Pittsburgh is interested.
Davis was the team’s third round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, but he failed to live up to expectations in Kansas City despite substantial buzz entering the league. His best year came in 2014 when he had 134 carries and 463 rushing yards and 6 touchdowns. Davis’s primary value for the Chiefs came on special teams with his skill and experience as a kick returner. He returned two for touchdowns in his Chiefs career, including a 108-yard return during his rookie season.
