The Kansas City Chiefs have held a private workout with Zane Gonzalez, the top kicker in this year’s NFL Draft.
Zane Gonzalez is no ordinary kicker. Perhaps that’s why he’s earning some pre-draft buzz and interest like few kickers ever receive. The Arizona State product has already held a private workout with the Kansas City Chiefs among other team and should warrant considerable interest heading to the 2017 NFL Draft.
Gonzalez is widely considered to be the best available kicker in this year’s draft class and he’s coming in with a number of FBS records to his name, from most field goals made and attempted to the tune of a career 83% mark along with a touchback mark of 75%. At Arizona State, he made at least 20 field goals in each of his four seasons for the Sun Devils.
This season he won the Lou Groza award as college football’s best kicker after successfully converting 23 of 25 field goals (92%) during his senior season. He’s fourth all-time in points in FBS history with 494 total points, a mark that stands first in the Pac-12. He’s also only missed five extra points in his four-year career, going 204 for 209 in that time, good for 97.5%.
