One of the draft’s hottest prospects, Obi Melifonwu said that he had a formal interview with the Chiefs at the NFL Combine.

Just because the Kansas City Chiefs recently inked Eric Berry and Daniel Sorensen to long-term deals while already have Ron Parker wrapped up doesn’t mean they feel absolutely set at safety. The team is doing its due diligence on all prospects in the 2017 NFL Draft, which is why they’ve given some formal interview time to Connecticut safety Obi Melifonwu.

Several teams are in on Melifonwu, who wowed scouts on the final day of the NFL Combine and is often compared to the best safeties in the NFL. Pro Football Focus recently compared him to Kam Chancellor and called him the safest pick at his position outside of top five lock Jamal Adams. Daniel Jeremiah of NFL Network says that Melifonwu is a fast-riser and will likely land in the bottom of the first round.

Melifonwu had 118 total tackles last year for the Huskies, 2.5 of them for a loss. He also had 4 interceptions and 3 passes defended.
