Patrick Mahomes
As the Addicts are well aware, I am a HUGE Pat Mahomes fan. I will be keeping that man crush out of this analysis as much as possible, rest assured.
The head of the Texas Tech offense brings to the field a powerful arm and athletic legs to bust the big plays wide open. Mahomes’ arm has a storied pedigree, with his father being a former MLB pitcher. He made good use of this arm in both high school and college, and he can launch the ball anywhere it needs to go—showcasing the ability to crank up the intensity for tight throws.
The accuracy of this arm cannon has steadily made improvements through college. Complemented by a pair of legs that can scramble effectively and fight for the first down. The strengths on display are very tantalizing.
Mahomes is not without his weaknesses however. Mahomes has a tendency to break out of the pocket early and jump the gun in looking for the big plays. This can get him into some tough situations sometimes. This naturally leads to not having the best touches on his deep balls and an inability to fall into a natural rhythm. There also are a few issues with his throwing mechanics.
Mahomes will work well with a couple seasons to spend learning the NFL game and correct his mechanical issues. He will succeed in a mobile/west coast offense (hint hint, Kansas City). Most have Mahomes going anywhere from mid 1st round to the early 3rd round. If you ask me, take Mahomes in the late 1st round or early 2nd round.
