Free agency and the draft are the significant paths any team’s offseason evolution. For both free agency and the draft, Chiefs have a game plan.

John Dorsey doesn’t roll out of bed without a plan. As free agency begins to unfold, this plan involves a lot of observations and little action.

On Thursday, we saw a huge amount of movement across the league, headlined by the trade of Brock Osweiler to the Cleveland Browns. Dorsey has so far taken a wait-and-see attitude. One position that has seen little movement is the class of free agent running backs.

The Chiefs may have missed out on one player, in particular, that would be a good scheme fit. Danny Woodhead signed with the Baltimore Ravens after having played in San Diego. Woodhead is an impressive third-down back and would be a natural pairing with Spencer Ware.

Another area that has not seen much movement is the Chiefs free agent Dontari Poe. The Chiefs have the defensive line of the future already on the roster. Dorsey looks to be taking his time and letting Poe determine how strong the market is for him. If it comes back weak, Poe could still return. Dorsey will wait and see.
