The Kansas City Chiefs have made a number of moves that will make things interesting as the league kicks off the legal tampering phase of free agency this afternoon.

The Chiefs freed themselves from risk when they signed both Eric Berry and Laurent Duvernay-Tardif to a contract and an extension respectively. Now, they are able to play a limited but targeted role in free agency. There are still several players whose free agency outcomes will be of interest to the team.

The biggest name on the market may be Dontari Poe. The team has been open about the possibility of his return at the right price. If his back injury and recent performance leave him with a fairly soft market, it will be intriguing to see if the Chiefs show interest in his return on the cheap.

Rumors have begun to float that Jamaal Charles is not finding a lot of interest on the open market. Although the acrimonious parting of ways with Kansas City seems like a large obstacle if Charles doesn’t find interest out on the market, the fan base would love to see him return on an incentive-laden contract.

Teams and agents can begin communicating officially at 4:00 p.m. Eastern time. Let the games begin.
