CHARLOTTE, NC – NOVEMBER 13: Nick Foles
CHARLOTTE, NC – NOVEMBER 13: Nick Foles /

Technically, Nick Foles is still a member of the Kansas City Chiefs, but his release is most certainly coming any minute as the team needs the cap space and Foles will likely want a chance to start in the NFL. The career numbers are there, including a career mark of 20-16 as a starting quarterback, and he looked solid in relief of Alex Smith last year.

All of this means Foles will earn a starting spot somewhere in the NFL for 2017. It wouldn’t surprise us to see Foles starting in Week 1 for any number of teams given the lack of quality options around the league as well as the comfort of sitting a rookie for at least a spell before turning over the reins of the offense. Whether or not he’s keeping someone’s seat warm or given a real chance, Foles will start some games.

Prediction: Buffalo Bills

The Bills continue to flirt with Tyrod Taylor in a sort of “Will they? Won’t they?” reminiscent of Kevin and Winnie in the Wonder Years. The truth is that there needs to be some solidification of the position, and the team just brought in former Chiefs wide receivers coach David Culley to be their new quarterbacks coach. Culley might be working with Taylor as well as a new draft pick, but adding Foles to the mix here makes plenty of sense.

Other teams like the New York Jets are wide open for a veteran quarterback, but our suspicion is that Foles will avoid the bright lights of the NYC media market to be able to play the game. The Bills showed some serious offensive promise last season, and there are pieces for Foles to like with LeSean McCoy and Sammy Watkins surrounding.
