Chiefs beat Broncos in instant classic
The Kansas City Chiefs beat the Denver Broncos in one of the wildest games you will ever witness. Kansas City was terrible, great and good enough.
What do you want me to say? Nobody, and I mean nobody, thought the Chiefs have a chance to win after falling behind 24-16 late in the fourth quarter. Nobody thought they would tie the game with less than 10 seconds left. Nobody thought the Chiefs could EVER come back in overtime to kick a game-tying field goal, and THEN a game-winner off the left upright and in.
This is the most incredible victory this team has had since beating the Broncos in 1994 on that Monday night classic. It’s not an overstatement. The Chiefs had all kinds of injuries and overcame, despite Trevor Siemian throwing three touchdowns and for 368 yards. Alex Smith was brutally bad until he needed to be great, ending up with 220 yards and a touchdown on 44 attempts.
Tyreek Hill was amazing, scoring three touchdowns. He ran back a free kick for 86 yards before scoring on a three-yard jaunt. In the waning seconds of the fourth quarter, Hill caught a touchdown pass as part of his nine-catch, 52-yard night. Travis Kelce led the team in yardage with 101 on eight receptions.
Defensively, what could you ask for from Justin Houston? He was amazing, notching three sacks and 10 tackles to lead Kansas City in both categories.
Let’s get to the big picture now. This win couldn’t be any bigger. The Chiefs are 8-3 and a game back in the AFC West, but in total control of their destiny. Barring a total collapse, the playoffs are happening. Meanwhile, the Broncos are out of the playoffs if they began today, falling into the AFC’s seventh slot via tiebreaker with the Miami Dolphins.
Enjoy this one. It was an instant classic that went our way in the Mile High city.
