The Chiefs’ offense has come back to Kansas City beaten up.

Major injuries to quarterback Alex Smtih, running back Spencer ware and guard Parker Ehinger have the Chiefs licking its wounds. According to Rick Burkholder, Chiefs’ Head Athletic Trainer, Alex Smith actually passed the concussion protocol both times he went through it on Sunday. That raises the question how accurate are those tests?

Smith certainly looked concussed both times but was cleared by an independent neurologist and will head to another independent neurologist before the Chiefs allow him to practice. Andy Reid did put to rest any thoughts of a QB controversy stating that Smith is the starter when healthy.

Spencer Ware did not pass the concussion protocol tests and will probably be out for Sunday’s game against the Jaguars. This will mean the Chiefs will likely need to find another RB for the game on Sunday as Charles visited Dr. James Andrews on Monday. With Charles likely out and Ware out as well KC needs RB help.

Another interesting event happened with Knile Davis being released by the Packers on Monday as well. KC could look to claim Davis to help fill the RB void. It is possible they bring up Reaves as well from the practice squad, especially with West getting hurt late in the game on Sunday.

Another big news piece on Monday is that Justin Houston will have until Wednesday next week to be activated to the active roster. He is more than likely out for this weekend’s game but will be activated by next Wednesday. Even if he is activated next week it doesn’t mean that he will play against the Panthers. Seven players are inactive each week so it’s possible he’ll be on the roster but inactive until the Chiefs believe he is fully ready. Reid did mention that he is showing great signs of being ready soon.
