Parker Ehinger

Against the Rams last week fans placed heavy criticism on Ehinger because of his inability to pass protect. This criticism may have been a little unfair as he was facing arguably the best defensive line in football. Aaron Donald and Michael Brockers consistently camped in Alex Smith’s lap after blowing past the rookie guard.

This week was a different and better story. Ehinger helped open up holes for runners and made sure that it wasn’t his man harassing the quarterback. Some of this could have been because Chicago has no where near the same talent on the front 7. Also Ehinger has been putting in the time and work to get better and should be good to go by the time the season starts.

The only play that stood out to me where Ehinger struggled was on the screen to Anthony Sherman in the redzone. It turned out alright but he definitely whiffed on his block which should have dropped Sherman in the backfield. The Chiefs love to run the screen with Jamaal Charles so Ehinger will need to add that to his list of things to improve as the season progresses.

The best option behind Ehinger from film is actually tackle Jah Reid. The coaches however look keep Reid on the outside. It doesn’t look like the primary backup will be the better player. For now the versatile Zach Fulton could step in at any time if Ehinger’s progression comes to a halt.
