Entering his fourth season in the NFL, Davis has done a consistent job of being inconsistent. The flashes have always been there, but they never seem to hang out long. That was part of the reason Andy Reid bypassed Davis on the depth chart following Jamaal Charles’ devastating injury.

Big Red opted to go with two inexperienced options at the position over Knile, and we all know that was the right decision. Which makes number 34 that much more expendable in 2016, right? Well, not so fast, because one of the hottest names out of training camp right now is yours truly.

Reports out of St. Joe are that Mr. Davis is fighting hard to keep his roster spot despite previous rumors of being traded in the offseason. According to the media, the most noticeable improvement in his game has been his hands out of the backfield, something that had also made Davis a liability in the past. Check out what he does to Derrick Johnson below.

In Reid’s version of the west coast offense, backs need to be able to catch the football as they almost play the role of another receiver at times. If Knile can continue working on his hands and impress the coaching staff in game, it will make it that much harder to cut him loose. Especially considering he contributes in a variety of areas.

When asked recently about what the kick return situation would look like, special teams coordinator Dave Toub expressed that Davis was his number one guy. With the Chiefs’ first depth chart being released late on Sunday night, Toub wasn’t kidding. Davis still plays a valuable niche role on kick returns and has done so since entering the league.
