Obviously that it the best outcome of the off-season for the Chiefs. Locking  up a star player like Berry to roam the secondary will help bolster one of the more surprising secondaries in the NFL. Yes veteran cornerback Sean Smith left to the Oakland Raiders, but the Chiefs are still in the good with second-year player Marcus Peters and the talent of the players on the roster. It would be in both Berry’s and the Chiefs best interest to come to a long term deal, but…

What if no deal is reached?

As reported on Wednesday a chance for a signed contract seems less likely as the deadline approaches. So what does that mean for the the team?

Well there is the option that Berry signs the tag, plays for the 10.8 million and the Chiefs have more time to work out a long term deal. Berry also could sit out for the 2016 season, but that seems less likely as there is no real animosity between Berry’s camp and the Chiefs; they simply have not been able to work out a deal. Berry will also have the option to receive offers from other teams, but the price tag for that team would be quite heavy as the team that signs him would have to surrender two first round picks to the Chiefs.

However, even given these two options, remember that the Justin Houston contract came down the wire last year before his long term deal was signed. Perhaps this is just like that situation. Both sides want to keep Berry in the red and gold for the long haul so it could just take a little more negotiating before the deal is complete. In a perfect world a deal is reached and Eric Berry stays with the Chiefs for the rest of what is sure to be a great career.

What do you think Addicts? Will this deal come down to the wire? What do you think might happen? Let us know in the comments
