The Kansas City Chiefs are entering the 2016 season with arguably the best backfield in all the NFL. When Jamaal Charles went down in a truly depressing loss to the Chicago Bears, fears were high. Charles has been the bell cow running back of the Chiefs for many years now, and as the focal point of the offense – even with the development of Travis Kelce and the free agent addition of Jeremy Maclin – these fears were certainly well founded.
Thankfully for all things Chiefs, two rising superstars shone bright in the final games of the season, displaying that not only did Kansas City have one the very best running backs in the league, but also the very best depth. Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware displayed a youthful exuberance in their running that was truly wonderful to behold.
West rushed for 640 yards and four touchdowns at an average of 4.0 yards per carry. They are impressive numbers for any player. For a reserve, someone who is coming in and replacing Charles, they are outstanding. With West beginning to break down with injury towards the end of the year, Ware then came in, ran for 403 yards, six touchdowns a ridiculous 5.6 yards per carry. They are phenomenal numbers from both players and do indicate the strength in depth that the Chiefs boast at the position.
So, how will such a talented backfield shape up this coming year?
