NFL news: Around the league in 32 plays
By Ben Almquist
Kansas City Chiefs: Star safety Eric Berry did not attend the Chiefs mandatory minicamp. However, his absence was anticipated as the team continues to negotiate with him and he will not be subject to any fines.
- Author’s Take: We’ve known for a while now that nothing was likely to happen with Berry until around the July 15 deadline. However, this still remains the biggest task on Dorsey’s plate, and it needs to get done.
Miami Dolphins: Safety Reshad Jones has ended his holdout and is reporting to mandatory minicamp. Dion Jones is expected to be reinstated with the league before the start of Training Camp according to his agent.
New England Patriots: Last week I told you that tight end Michael Williams would miss the season with a torn ACL, well this week he was flat out released by the Patriots.
New York Jets: Jets star defensive tackle Muhammad Wilkerson appears likely to hold out of Training Camp unless he receives a new deal from the team. Meanwhile, the team appears set to move forward with Geno Smith at quarterback as there has been no movement in contract talks with Ryan Fitzpatrick.
- Author’s Take: This situation is an example of just how unpredictable the NFL is. Just a couple of months ago, it was a given that the Jets would be moving forward with Sheldon Richardson and Leonard Williams. Wilkerson wasn’t even considered an option for the team. Now with Richardson suspended, Jets are in a tight spot.
