5 reasons why the Chiefs will be even better in 2016
By Bill Robbins
After trading away their first-round pick in this year’s NFL Draft, the Chiefs ended up picking former Mississippi State Bulldog Chris Jones in round two with their actual first pick in the draft. Jones was a very dominant and disruptive defensive lineman while playing for MSU, as he totaled 17.5 TFL, 8.5 sacks and 10 passes defensed during his collegiate career.
Although the jury is still out on whether or not Jones will also dominate at the next level, his presence alone should open up more opportunities for teammates Dontari Poe, Jaye Howard and Allen Bailey to rush the passer and cause havoc with run defense as well. This rookie’s progress will be fun to watch in a red and gold uniform.
Peters is fresh off of one of the best defensive seasons for a rookie in franchise history. The ex-Washington Husky finished the year with 60 tackles and was tops in the league with 26 passes defensed and eight interceptions to go along with that.
This year, teams will not likely throw his way as much due to his ball-hawking ability and that he is also one of the best young shutdown corners in the league.
Having Peters in Kansas City’s secondary should be an asset for years to come considering how talented he is and how he will make others around him even better just by being in the game.
