7th Round

Clay DeBord – OT – Eastern Washington

Strengths: Ideal frame for the position with room to add girth.  Good anchor against bull rushes.  Shows good initial quickness and the ability to ride pass rushers out of the play.  Strong work ethic and determination.  Experienced with 51 total starts at offensive tackle.

Weaknesses: FCS players, so opposing talent is the big question.  Will need to add some bulk to his frame.  Questions about his ability to handle a complex system as he struggled some with academics.  Upper body strength not ideal.  Can play too tall at times, allowing rushers underneath his pads.

The Fit: Sometimes when watching film on one player, another will stand out.  That’s the case with DeBord as I first noticed him when doing film work on Deiondre Hall of UNI.  I went back to see what more I could find of DeBord…and I liked it.  He’s far from a polished product, and truthfully he could probably be had as an UDFA…but I think the Chiefs should make the move in the seventh and lock him up.  This kid has some real long term potential and was a key cog in a very explosive offense the last few years.

Well, that’s going to do it for me Addicts.  We’re still a few weeks and a few mock draft scenarios out from the big day, but I’m definitely getting excited.  The Chiefs have put themselves in a very strong position ahead of this draft, and I expect they will make the most of it.

It’s a solid overall class, and offers some very intriguing talent in the areas the Chiefs seem to need it the most.  I expect John Dorsey to hit a home run this year…especially if he’s been keeping up with my weekly mock draft articles.  C’mon John, I’m doing all the hard work for ya!
