 6th Round

Geronimo Allison – WR – Illinois

Strengths: Big frame with long arms that should make him a good move-the-chains or red zone option.  Has solid initial quickness and acceleration to force corners to commit early, opening up double moves and misdirection routes.  Gets in and out of his breaks quickly and smoothly to leave the defender behind, opening up YAC opportunities.  Catches the ball well, even in traffic or staring down the barrel of a big hit.  Active blocker with a tough guy mentality.

Weaknesses: Needs to add bulk to his frame, especially in his legs.  The weight he has added from end of season to Combine had an affect on his long speed.  Needs to learn how to use his big frame to box out defensive backs and present as clean a target as possible to the quarterback.  Has the tools, but hasn’t put them together yet…and with a JUCO background, there are some questions as to whether he can do it.

The Fit: The Chiefs still don’t have a “big” target in their receiving corps for short area situations.  Conley has the size, but is more of a down the field threat than short area guy.  Kelce and Harris can be used in the “big” role, but you’d still like a guy in the WR corps that does it as well.  Allison can provide that and has the potential to be a bit of a playmaker if he can put it all together.

The Chiefs could go wide receiver earlier in the draft, but I think they’re still looking to see what strides can be made by Albert Wilson and Chris Conley.  And to be realistic, this draft isn’t the best for receiver talent.
