The Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly trying to trade Knile Davis.
Kansas City has been very busy on Thursday. The Chiefs got the day rolling by signing both Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware to contract extensions of three and two years, respectively. Now, there is a report that says the Chiefs are looking to deal running back/kick returner Knile Davis.
This can’t come as much of a shock to anybody. Davis was the backup for Jamaal Charles going into last season but was immediately passed on the depth chart when Charles tore his ACL in Week 5 against the Chicago Bears. Davis only carried the ball 28 times for 72 yards and a touchdown last year, showcasing the dwindling faith the coaching staff has in him.
I can confirm @JasonColeBR’s report about the #Chiefs working on a trade of Knile Davis, a source tells me. Been working it for a few weeks.

UPDATE: Apparently, Davis requested the trade:
True. Davis made the request weeks ago, Chiefs on the case. RT @JasonColeBR: Hearing #Chiefs working on a trade of RB Knile Davis.

Davis’ only real shining moment was a huge one, though. It cameon the first play of the AFC Wild Card game against the Houston Texans, when Davis took the opening kickoff back 107 yards. It turned out to be the winning score.
Moving Davis would make a ton of sense for general manager John Dorsey. A team typically carries four running backs and the Chiefs already have that in Charles, Ware, West and fullback Anthony Sherman. Davis is also slated to become a free agent next season and will be moving on. After being stripped of a third-round pick, why not try to get a pick from some team, even if it comes in the sixth or seventh round?
