1st Round

Taylor Decker – OT – Ohio St

Strengths: Large and powerful to overwhelm defenders.  Excellent body control to re-anchor himself or angle the defender away.  Surprising mobility to get to the second level.  Plays very physical and shows a mean streak.  Very experienced with 42 starts coming at both tackle positions and won Big Ten Offensive Lineman of the Year in 2015.  Team leader.

Weaknesses: His height can work against him as a natural hindrance to creating leverage.  Can be a bit slow off the snap at times which leads to rushing his technique, causing other problems.  Can get confused with pre-snap movement from the defense and needs to work on his recognition.

The Fit: The Chiefs need to put their offensive line issues to rest, and Decker can be the kind of player to lock down the RT position for years to come.  He also offers excellent experience to move to LT in case of injuries.  At this point in time, it seems likely that both Donald Stephenson and Jeff Allen are going to be allowed to walk.  While Jah Reid was ok at RT in 2015, the Chiefs could definitely use an upgrade, which would also allow Reid to kick inside to RG where he played better.
