Andrew Billings – DT – Baylor – 6’1″ – 311 lbs

The defensive line position group is widely considered to be the most talented of the 2016 draft class. Because of that, its entirely possible that the Chiefs could get an elite player at that position even drafting at the end of the first round. It wouldn’t be shocking to see seven DT or 3-4 DE prospects go in the first round. With such a variety of talent it’s hard to project which of these players could conceivably still be on the board when KC picks. One possibility is Baylor’s Andrew Billings who had a great combine performance on Sunday.

Billings is a little short for a prototypical 3-4 DE, but his strength/speed combination which was on display at the combine as well as on his game film should make him a force against both the pass and run. On Sunday he ran a 5.05 forty and put up and 31 bench press reps. Overall, he just looks very light on his feet for a burly 311 pound man. He would make a great interior lineman in the sub package on passing downs and would be a great replacement for Jaye Howard if the Chiefs end up losing him in free agency.

While I’m on the record as hoping a top tackle prospect falls to the Chiefs in the first round, Billings is the type of player that is talented enough that if he’s still on the board when you’re up to pick you run the card up to the podium without a second thought of positional need. If Billings were to be off the table another name to keep an eye on is Vernon Butler from Louisiana Tech. The 6’4″ and 323 lbs (with long 35″ arms) Butler is more of a prototype 3-4 DE. His tape is equally impressive (though against lesser competition) and his combine numbers were solid (5.33 forty, 26 bench press reps) while not quite as impressive as Billings (although Butler did have a better 3 cone and 20 yard shuffle time).

So what do you think Addicts? Do you like any of these combine standouts for the Chiefs in the 2016 draft? Were there other standouts that you like even better for KC? I would have loved to include a cornerback on this list but since they hadn’t gone as of this writing that wasn’t an option. So if you watched any cornerbacks on Monday that you think would be good additions to this list please list them in the comments below.

As always, thanks for reading and GO CHIEFS!!!!!!!!!
