In 2015, the Kansas City Chiefs took some major steps. They won a playoff game, rolled off a 10-game winning streak to end the regular season and saw a rookie become one of the best players in the National Football League.
Kansas City finally feels like the kind of team that could take the next step and reach the Super Bowl. It has always felt like a little bit of a dream for the Chiefs, but suddenly it is tangible. Instead of thinking about the team advancing in the postseason and wondering what it would feel like, we saw it and realized that this group is close. Very close.

In that vein, general manager John Dorsey has a tight line to walk. He has ample free agents including Sean Smith, Eric Berry, Jaye Howard, Husain Abdullah, Derrick Johnson, Tamba Hali and others. Beyond them, Dorsey has to add a piece or two in both free agency and the draft. With that, the Chiefs could go from legitimate contender to unabashed favorite moving forward.
So where should the Chiefs be looking to improve? Let’s look at the situation assuming that all of the key free agents are back with the exception of Smith, who might be too expensive for Kansas City.
