Chase Daniel

Chase Daniel has been a backup for most of his career. With the exceptions of starting a few games he has been on the sideline most of his NFL career.

However, Daniel is a good backup quarterback and many NFL players can make a decent career out of that, despite the stigma that comes with it. Daniel signed a much larger than normal contract for a backup when the Chiefs picked him up from the Saints.

Unfortunately, his time as the man behind current quarterback Alex Smith is more than likely to come to an end. The Chiefs can in no way continue to pay Chase what he has been making to just be the backup, not when they have Aaron Murray, and Tyler Bray, who are both much cheaper options. The second string quarterback is an important position, and there is a lot to say about having a good backup in case something happens to the starter.

In Daniel’s case he has not seen much playing time in the regular season, only appearing in 10 games and starting two. While he has not been off the wall incredible in those starts, he has been careful with the ball only throwing one pick and not fumbling. He has been a good replacement for Smith when it was necessary, but to keep paying him 4.8 million he received last year, it something the team cannot afford to do.
