We hear the annoying phrase that “it’s a quarterback league” but maybe these stats tell us there’s some truth to that. It’s not fair to say Alex Smith can’t win a Super Bowl but maybe fair to say that you’ll need a great supporting cast around him or it’s not likely. That is why it will be critically important for Dorsey and Reid to put together a great offseason and strengthen the roster even further.

Kansas City has made great progress when you think about the three years the not so new front office has been employed by Clark Hunt. That doesn’t mean the Chiefs can get comfortable though, they still have a long ways to go and a lot of decisions to make. These decisions will not be easy as there are several good players that are set to be free agents for the Chiefs.

Many have built trust in what the front office has been doing including the players, Tamba Hali recently commented on his faith in the front office, “Those guys know what we need (Andy Reid and John Dorsey) and since they’ve been here we’ve only gotten better.”

You can look at team’s like the the Seahawks, the Panthers, and the 49ers, all teams who represented the NFC in the Super Bowl the last four years that weren’t built like the AFC teams mentioned. These are teams that drafted well and made smart offseason decisions to put great supporting casts in place for their quarterbacks.

With maybe an exception to Cam Newton whose having a MVP like season, the teams did well to build a good offensive line and put play makers along side of what have been good not great quarterbacks. Even this year for Newton, the running game has aided Newton in having a spectacular season.
