Chiefs finally win playoff game, thrash Texans
Hey, 1993 … meet 2015. The Kansas City Chiefs have finally won a playoff game. Frankly, it is hard to type this with the final moments ticking down. I can’t stop thinking about all the pain that has led to this second in time. Soak it in, Kansas City. You deserve this.
The Chiefs absolutely hammered the Houston Texans on Saturday afternoon in the AFC Wild Card game, winning 30-0 and ending both an eight-game playoff losing streak along with a 22-year winless drought in the postseason.
Forget about the Jeremy Maclin injury and Alex Smith’s interception. Forget about anything that went against Kansas City throughout the day. This was about a dominant defense showing that it can play with incredible effectiveness under the brightest lights.
The defense was beyond fantastic, causing five turnovers including four interceptions off the hand of Brian Hoyer. Sean Smith, Eric Berry, Marcus Peters and Josh Mauga all picked off the overwhelmed Hoyer, who was lucky to complete a pass in this game. The run defense was also terrific sans one second-quarter run by Alfred Blue.
On offense, it was the Travis Kelce show. Kelce caught eight passes for 128 yards, consistently finding seams in the defense. Of cours,e the pay of the day was the opening kickoff, when Knile Davis took the kick and raced 106 yards for the second-longest kick return in NFL postseason history.
Spencer Ware also lead a rushing attack that was able to keep the Texans off-balance all day. Ware rushed for 67 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries.
Do you feel lighter, Chiefs fans? It’s that massive monkey sliding off your back.
