1. Husain Abdullah – DB

When Abdullah arrived in KC he was a total unknown. He had taken time off from the NFL for his Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca. Now he is a key starter on defense where his versatility in both coverage and run support from both the safety and nickel back positions have been invaluable for the Chiefs, especially when Eric Berry was out last season.

2. Jason Avant – WR

Avant may not be putting up huge numbers, but when he was cut by the wide receiver-needy Carolina Panthers last season most assumed that his career was over. In 16 games with the Chiefs he’s put up 24 receptions for 244 yards. While not a starter, he has been a role player and positive locker room influence for some of KC’s young receivers.

3. Jaye Howard – DL

Dorsey snatched Jaye Howard away from the Seattle Seahawks as part of his famous signing spree after roster cutdowns in his first year in KC. Howard has progressed each year and is now one of the defense’s key players, having totaled 87 tackles from a defensive line spot during his time in KC. Hopefully Dorsey is able to re-sign Howard and pair him long term with Dontari Poe and Allen Bailey.
