Justin Houston: The top story this week is undoubtedly the new contract between the Chiefs and superstar linebacker Justin Houston. After months of waiting, fans were able to breathe a sigh of relief as the Kansas City brass locked up the best pass rusher in the NFL until 2021. Houston signed a deal that makes him the second highest paid defensive player in the league, behind only Ndamukong Suh.
Some fans had concerns that a Houston deal would “cripple the franchise”, but no such thing happened. Even with Houston’s huge contract, the Chiefs remain in the upper half of the league in terms of projected cap space in 2016. Chiefs general manager, John Dorsey, made clear his intentions to continue to build this team around the defense. That defense is based on the pass rush, and Justin Houston is the key piece of said pass rush. All in all, it couldn’t have been that tough a decision.
Arizona Cardinals: Cardinals linebacker Daryl Washington has applied for reinstatement in the NFL. Washington is currently serving a suspension for multiple violations of the NFL banned substance policy. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello has stated that there is no change in Washington’s standing.

Atlanta Falcons: Rumors are coming out that the Falcons are finally entering into contract negotiations with wide receiver Julio Jones. Sources are stating that the team believes a deal will be done before training camp starts. The Falcons had been refusing to negotiate. However, with the Dez Bryant and Demaryius Thomas deals coming in lower than Calvin Johnson’s mega deal, it seems like the right move. Jones should receive a deal comparable to that of Bryant and Thomas.
Buffalo Bills: Bills offensive line coach Aaron Kromer turned a negative spot light on the team when he got arrested for assaulting a minor this past weekend. Kromer and his son allegedly beat up a couple of juveniles, one of them a neighbor’s son. Kromer has been suspended by the team without pay pending the outcome of the case.
