Defensive line (7)

Mike DeVito
Dontari Poe
Allen Bailey
Vaughn Martin
Jaye Howard
Mike Catapano
Jerel Worthy

Analysis: It will be interesting if Catapano can become a real playmaker this season after struggling with illness last year. Also, does Martin beat out Rakeem Nunez-Roches? I believe Nunez-Roches will be a nice player in time, but he’s still raw. Worthy could be a long shot, but he’s got some talent.

Linebacker (9)

Tamba Hali
Justin Houston
Frank Zombo
Josh Martin
Dee Ford
Josh Mauga
Derrick Johnson
D.J. Alexander
Ramik Wilson

Analysis: This might be the deepest group on the team. James-Michael Johnson is the odd man out for me, meaning that both Wilson and Alexander make the roster. This will be a full-blown dogfight.

  • Cornerback (6)

    Sean Smith
    Phillip Gaines
    Marcus Peters
    Steven Nelson
    Jamell Fleming
    DeVante Bausby

Analysis: I don’t believe Marcus Cooper will be on the roster in 2015. Cooper was a great story in 2013 but saw his playing time take a nosedive after struggling badly in the five weeks before the BYE in 2014. Cooper is probably gone, allowing Fleming and Bausby to snag spots. Bausby could be this year’s undrafted-rookie who makes it.

    Safety (4)

    Ron Parker
    Husain Abdullah
    Tyvon Branch
    Kelsie McCray

Analysis: I really, really hope I’m wrong here. I want to see Eric Berry running out of the tunnel Week 1, playing football like he is meant to do. However, I don’t see Berry starting the season with Kansas City. Instead, I think our warrior beats cancer and returns sometime later in the campaign. What a moment that will be.

    Special teams (3)

    Dustin Colquitt
    Cairo Santos
    Andrew East

Analysis: Two of these are a no-brainer, and I believe East will take the post Thomas Gafford had for so long as the long snapper.
